Getting Started

Hi Team,

I received a request for the game video for this year’s game, so I give you the link (without the “acting” at the beginning):

I imported a bunch of stuff from vendor-provided CAD files, and I’ve seen some work in our Onshape model, which is great!  We now need to get a bit more into the meat and potatoes of the design.

One thing that happened over the weekend, is that we received a new controller hub and a new pair of Android phones.  The phones are so that we can develop code on two different robots.  The new controller hub is a bit of a game changer.  It uses different connectors for the motors, and uses different voltage levels for the motor encoders.  Because of this, it is essentially incompatible with the previous motors and controllers.  We can make last years motors work with some adapters, but this increases the number of things that can fail during competition. We really don’t want to use last year’s motors, as they use possibly the worst of the output shaft types of all of the legal motors.

The new controller hub is enough of an advance over what was previously used, that I have decided to remove the CAD models of the older control system as well as the motors that are not well-suited to our use.

Sometime this week, we should have a new FTC Blog on the https://firstteam585.org website.  I’ll be posting more information there about motor sizing and a way around some of the issues we will be dealing with for our drive system.
